Life on the High Seas

If I were inclined to get seasick, I think today would have been one of those days. We’ve had the roughest ride yet in my short time aboard a cruise ship, and it’s been a challenge to stay on my feet. I can feel the bow of the ship moving up and down, and we’re also going side to side. My brother once described something called a Dutch Roll. I wonder if this is it. So, like I said, if I tended toward motion sickness, today I might have been a little green. I didn’t hear others mention being sick, though. Maybe they were in their staterooms. I've heard it can get much, much worse.

There’s a stowaway on board. I saw him this morning. He’s a little sparrow-like bird, and I saw him hopping along the back deck during the breakfast hour this morning. I assume he’s staying close to the ship, as we’re too far out at sea for him to be safe on his own. He must be the little bird I saw yesterday flying just outside my verandah. I worried about him being so far from land. If I see him again, I’ll try for a picture.

I did however get a picture of some rather fancy feathers on the dancers at the matinee production called “Gotta Dance.” How they danced with the ship moving like it is, I’ll never know!

We move our clocks forward AGAIN tonight. Two days from Cape Town, and by my rough calculation we have about 1,500 miles to go.
