Outside the Window

This morning for the first time I could not see the horizon. Fog hid it from view. It seemed we were drifting in an endless expanse of water and fog. The reality is we are traveling due east, making a bee line for Cape Town. The captain told us last night there are 2 ways to get there from here - either the straight line which is longer but less likely to be on rough seas, or take a curved line south which is actually shorter but rougher. The weather ahead looks good, so he's chosen the straight line and quieter sea. Good choice.

This afternoon the fog broke up, but I stepped outside on the back deck a short time ago, and the fog had again obscured the horizon. I looked around the corner to try to determine how much visibility we have. I could see the ship's bridge at the very front, but it was somewhat in the fog. So whatever the length of the ship is, that's roughly the visibility we had. Now it's dark outside and we travel on.

The temperatures have cooled, especially at night. We move our clocks forward 1 hour tonight.
