Let the Sunshine In!

Day 3 and we are at sea. Really. The ship has been moving around a lot today, and we've all had a bit of difficulty keeping our footing. The sky has been overcast all day - horizon to horizon - and it's been rather windy. It rained for a while this afternoon, and that caused me to wonder: when it rains at sea, does the ocean get wet? I saw a few more islands afar off, and once again have no clue which islands they were.

Whereas last night the breeze outside my cabin was cool and refreshing, I noticed tonight it is warmer and much more humid.

Dinner in a quiet spot on Lido deck 12 tonight. Alone with my thoughts, and that suited me just fine. If you could see what's on my plate you'd say "Busted." Cheeseburger and chips. But not so fast - it's wagyu beef, cheddar cheese, and crisp waffle chips. About the size of a McDonald's burger, but I shouldn't even be mentioning these two polar opposites on the burger scale within the same paragraph. The "crisp waffle chips" were artfully presented in a doily-lined silver cup sitting on the plate.

Great performer this evening - Michel (pronounced Michelle) Bell. Truth be told, I did not know what to expect, but I was blown away! He's been on Broadway and was in The Fifth Dimension group back in the 60s. Of course, I knew almost every word of their hit The Age of Aquarius, and was right there with the rest of the audience singing along and waving our hands in the air, like a bunch of flower children! We must have sung "let the sunshine, let the sunshine, the sunshine in" about a dozen times. He sang "Ol' Man River" which was quite moving, but the selection I liked best was the Ashokan Farewell (one of the theme songs from the PBS series The Civil War) paired with a song written for him in the musical Civil War. He played the part of a runaway slave who was a gravedigger for the Union Army, and in the song he asks, "Tell me, my father, tell me how long will boys keep dyin' for freedom's song?"

Tomorrow another day at sea, and our first Virtuoso event - a cocktail party.
